Top Nigerian Churches and Mosques in the UK by City

London gets most of the attention in these guides, but the truth is Nigerian faith communities are just as strong, and in Liverpool's case arguably stronger, in Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Leicester and plenty of smaller towns too. This version goes deeper than a first pass, city by city and denomination by denomination, with real addresses pulled from charity and company registers rather than guesswork.
The Role of Faith Communities for Nigerians in the UK:
A Nigerian church or mosque in the UK is rarely just a place for a service. It is where a new arrival gets their first real friends, where a family finds childcare help, where someone going through a hard time gets checked on without having to ask. Many of the churches and mosques below also run food banks, legal and housing advice sessions, and language classes for children born here. For a lot of Nigerians, faith community is the fastest route to feeling settled, faster even than finding a job or a flat.
Prominent Nigerian Churches Across Major UK Cities
Here is a list of Nigerian-led churches by city, drawn from denomination websites, Companies House and Charity Commission records. Addresses can change, so treat this as a starting point and confirm before you travel to a service.

This is a much larger sweep than before, 91 churches across nine denominations, and Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries (MFM) deserves special mention. Its UK arm publishes a full, official branch list, and it runs 49 separate branches, from Aylesbury to Sunderland, Cardiff to Aberdeen, which is more coverage on its own than any other single denomination we checked. A few things stood out doing this properly. Liverpool has at least five active RCCG parishes (Love Assembly, Garden of Hope, Liberty Centre, Royal Connections and Divine Revelation), the UK national headquarters of The Apostolic Church LAWNA in Huyton, a Christ Embassy branch in Dovecot, and its own MFM branch, so Liverpool's Nigerian church scene is genuinely as large as Manchester's or Birmingham's. Smaller towns have real congregations too, RCCG Open Heavens in Wigan is one example, registered with Companies House and run from Platt Bridge, and MFM alone has branches in towns as small as Purfleet, Bexleyheath and Wellingborough.
A few honest notes on this table. We could not find a public street address for an RCCG parish specifically branded "C&C". If you have a specific one in mind, send us the full name and we will look it up properly rather than guess. Living Faith Church runs many more branches than we could list individually, including Bristol, Cardiff, Coventry, Southampton and several more, all reachable through winners-chapel.org.uk. Celestial Church of Christ has dozens more separately registered parishes across the UK beyond the sample here, and it is worth searching your own city plus "Celestial Church of Christ" directly on the Charity Commission register. We have not yet covered every Nigerian-founded denomination, Deeper Life Bible Church, Christ Chapel International and Kingsway International Christian Centre among others also have UK branches, and we will fold these into a future update.
Key Nigerian Mosques and Islamic Centres in the UK
NASFAT gets mentioned most often, but it is genuinely only one part of a wider Nigerian Muslim landscape in the UK, several other organisations, some national, some city-specific, serve the same community in different ways.
NASFAT (Nasrul-Lahi-l-Fatih Society) is the largest, with 12 branches across the UK and Ireland, running Madrasah classes for children alongside daily and Friday prayers.

NASFAT Manchester bought and converted a former Methodist church into its own mosque in 2013, after nine years of moving between venues.
Beyond NASFAT, these are worth knowing:
|
Organisation |
What it is |
|---|---|
|
Runs the Old Kent Road Mosque and Islamic Cultural Centre in south London, the best known Nigerian mosque nationally, with a school (Markaz) for children from age five |
|
|
A registered UK charity and the British and Irish branch of a Nigerian Islamic organisation founded in Lagos in 1923, one of the oldest Islamic reform and education societies in Nigeria. Holds weekly programmes at Bow Central Mosque in London and operates across England and Wales |
|
|
Nigerian Muslims Association of Birmingham (NIMAB) Welfare Trust |
Founded by nine Nigerian families meeting after Jummah prayers at Birmingham Central Mosque in the early 2000s, now a registered charity (number 1116452) serving Nigerian Muslims across the West Midlands |
|
Nigeria Muslim Association, Coventry |
A West Midlands sister organisation to NIMAB, part of the same informal network of Nigerian Muslim groups |
|
Council of Nigerian Muslim Organisations UK |
An umbrella body connecting several of the Nigerian Muslim groups above, worth asking about if you are trying to find a group in a specific city |
NIMAB's own history is a useful example of how most of these groups actually start: a handful of families meeting for Jummah at a general mosque, then organising their own regular gathering, then formally registering once the group is established. If there is no dedicated Nigerian Muslim group in your city yet, this is genuinely how a new one begins.
For cities without any of the above, many Nigerian Muslims worship at general mosques serving the wider Muslim community, Birmingham Central Mosque and Manchester Central Mosque among them, and ask there about any Nigerian or Yoruba-speaking congregation members, since an informal group often exists even without a name or a Facebook page yet.
How to Find Local Nigerian Faith Communities in Smaller UK Towns
If you live somewhere not listed above, a few approaches work well. Search Facebook for your denomination plus your town, most churches and Muslim associations keep an active page even without a proper website. Call the nearest listed branch in a bigger city, they will usually know if a smaller fellowship meets closer to you. Ask in local Nigerian community WhatsApp groups, covered in our directory of Nigerian community groups, since faith community recommendations come up constantly in these spaces. And check general UK mosque and church directories such as Muslim Directory UK or Find a Church, which list smaller congregations that may not have much of a web presence of their own.
Cultural Events, and Networking Opportunities
Nearly every church and mosque in this list does more than hold services. RCCG parishes commonly run food banks and community outreach alongside Sunday worship. Celestial Church of Christ parishes describe their charitable objectives as spreading the gospel and helping the needy in the community. NASFAT's Madrasah classes teach children Arabic and Islamic knowledge on top of faith. Christ Embassy and Living Faith both run large annual conferences and healing services that double as major community gatherings, drawing Nigerians from well outside the host city.
If you are new to a city, going to one of these beyond a single Sunday is often where the real networking happens, the WhatsApp groups, the job leads, the introductions to other Nigerian families nearby. Our guide to your first seven days in the UK covers how to fit this into your early settling-in plan.
Whatever your denomination, there is very likely a Nigerian-led congregation within reach, even outside London. Start with the table above, confirm the details before you travel, and do not be shy about calling ahead. Most of these communities are genuinely glad to hear from someone new.
This article reflects addresses and details we could confirm as of September 2026. Churches and mosques move premises, change service times and sometimes close. If you know a correction or a group we have missed, tell us and we will update this guide on contact@naijaukhub.com
