Disabled people invited to shape recommendations of PIP review
Disabled individuals are being asked to provide input on the recommendations of the Timms Review, an ongoing assessment of the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) system. The review, launched in October last year, aims to ensure that PIP is fair and effective for the future.
Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit in the United Kingdom that helps with extra living costs for those with a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability. Eligibility for PIP is not based on the condition itself, but on how it affects daily life. The Timms Review published an Interim Report in July 2026, which found that the current PIP system is no longer deemed fit for purpose.
The current phase of the review focuses on gathering perspectives to help shape the final recommendations for improving PIP. These recommendations are expected to address the issues identified in the interim report, aiming to create a more equitable and effective system for disabled people across the UK.
Changes to Personal Independence Payment (PIP) can directly affect the financial well-being of immigrant households in the UK, particularly those with family members who have disabilities and are eligible for welfare support. Any reforms stemming from the Timms Review could alter the level of support available, impacting the cost of living for these families and their ability to manage expenses related to long-term health conditions.
